D 306

The majority of  locomotives were repainted blue when they were overhauled, but as the green livery had become a firm favourite with enthusiasts, B.R. Decided that when 40106 entered Crewe in 1978 they would keep her green. She became the most popular loco in this livery for rail-tour duties and was allocated to Manchester Longsight Depot.
40106 was eventually withdrawn in 1983 due to the fact of being vacuum braked only. In the spring of 1984 the current owner purchased her and the G.C.R. Became the type 4`s new home in preservation.
On the 11th August 1984,the loco was officially named “Atlantic Conveyer” by Cunard in remembrance of the container ship( named the same) that had been sunk during the Falklands campaign.
D306 made her move to Wansford, her present home, by road  in 1990, where she immediately entered service for the Nene Valley Railway and can be seen in regular service there during the season.
